About Perrysburg

Perrysburg is a diverse community of about 20,000 residents. Nearly 200 years ago, William Henry Harrison and his troop of 1,200 men spoiled the British and Indian siege of a supply outpost known as Fort Meigs. It was a major victory for the Americans during the War of 1812, and it is still celebrated by the people of Perrysburg today.

Perrysburg, founded in 1816, was named in honor of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, who cleared the British from Lake Erie. What was once an inland shipping port is now a city with award-winning schools, a historic downtown, modern commercial and industrial districts and hometown charm.Perrysburg Google Maps

Aside from its reputation as a livable community, Perrysburg is also a popular tourist destination. From the largest reconstructed fortification in North America and the quaint Victorian buildings of old downtown, to symphony concerts and modern shopping facilities, the city has plenty to entertain history buffs and vacationers alike.

This charming city lies in a natural setting along the Maumee River. Visitors can enjoy scenic landscapes from the city’s open spaces and parks. The 577 Foundation and nearby Schedel Arboretum not only offer some of the most beautiful gardens in the region, but also preserve the properties’ natural splendor. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy an open-air farmers market with local vendors, musicians and artisans from summer to fall.

The Perrysburg Exempted Village Schools are among the finest in the state. Students consistently score high on all standardized tests, including the state’s proficiency tests. The Ohio Department of Education has awarded the district an excellent rating on the state report card each year since 2001-2002.

The district serves approximately 4,800 students in six school buildings: four elementary schools, a junior high school and a senior high school. Central offices are located in the Commodore Building in downtown Perrysburg.

The district offers an All-Day Kindergarten program on a tuition basis that employs the Waterford Early Literacy Program, a computer program that enhances the literacy skills of young students.

In 2001, the district celebrated the grand opening of a new high school. The 281,630 square foot building consists of two wings—an academic and a fine arts/ athletic area—joined together by the school cafeteria, called the Commons. The building has 82 teaching stations, a 3,000-seat competitive gymnasium with an upstairs running track, as well as a 1,000 seat theatre-style auditorium.
